Choosing a VoIP Provider

VoIP providers offer many of the same services as their analog competitors, the main difference is the price; VoIP providers offer their services at close to half the price that analog services charge even with out considering all the extras. Most companies offer at least two calling plans, one that is basic and may only offer free local service and a certain number of long distance minutes a month. A second type of unlimited plan is also often available, unlimited plans can have unlimited calling to just the US or some even offer free calling to US, Canada, and many countries in Europe. There are more features from a VoIP provider than would seem likely from the price, but many companies offer free caller id, call waiting, three-way-calling, several blocking features, and free voice mail. For a small fee users can still call information when they need to or use a fax service.

Prices

Prices do vary by company; however there are still average prices, from about 10 dollars to around 40 dollars in monthly charges is the range, though most fall in the 15-25 dollar bracket.  Some of the lower end prices do not include unlimited long distance; those services usually cost a minimum of about 20 dollars.   The rates per minute for services that don't have unlimited are often very reasonable under five cents per minute within the US. There is extra equipment needed to use a VoIP provider's service, however they usually offer it free, the customer is often only responsible for the shipping, which usually runs about ten dollars.  All potential customers should check the company's websites and read customer reviews before deciding on any one service, it is a good idea to compare VoIP service plans, rates, and other charges before making a commitment.

Customer Service

There can be some required contact with any given VoIP provider's customer service department; how a company handles their customers says a lot about the company as a whole.  It is very hard to find good customer service any where anymore, but according to customer reviews there are VoIP providers which have cornered the market on excellent customer service representatives.

In Conclusion
In conclusion, for a very cost effective and functional telephoning experience VoIP can be an excellent choice; there are many popular features that are included in the monthly charge, there is a nice selection of calling plans, there is a great deal of competition which makes rates low, and best of all there are no unexplained fees or taxes.
