The PC or personal computer has become an increasingly versatile and important electronic component that benefits the average home. The value of the computer in keeping families connected with their communication needs is seen in written correspondence, use of video images, instant messaging and e-mails. In addition, personal computers are now meeting the telephone needs of families in staying connected with other members of the family.
This telephone communication process is accomplished through broadband phone service. When considering broadband phone service in the home it is important to understand how this technology works, the hardware requirements and the benefits of using broadband phone service.
How Broadband Phone Service Works
Broadband phone service is computer communication technology that provides phone service. However, rather than the communication being transmitted through phone lines, the communication takes place through the broadband internet connection.
Broadband internet service is a type of internet connection. This connection allows for the exchange of a wider band of frequencies. This in turn allows for a greater and faster exchange of information.
Hardware Requirements
Before an individual can take advantage of broadband phone service there are specific requirements needed to utilize a broadband phone service. The first prerequisite is to engage a VoIP service or Voice Over Internet protocol service.
Once a service has been contracted with a telephone adapter is needed. This adapter is inserted into the high speed modem or the router. This adapter will then allow for the individual to use a regular phone to make calls.
The Benefits Of Using Broadband Phone Service
The phone services available through the use of a broadband phone service are no different than those received from traditional phone services. Many broadband phone services offer service packages that may include unlimited long distance, caller ID, voice mail, etc.
In addition, another major benefit to utilizing broadband phone service are the fees. Generally, these services are provided at one low, consistent monthly fee. In addition, there may be free or unlimited long distance calling.
Also, with broadband phone service the user can keep their existing phone number and communicate with other individuals in a variety of ways. These methods could include VoIP to VoIP or VoIP to a traditional phone line or VoIP to another computer station.
