Security and Your VoIP Plan

Do we need a security VoIP plan of attack? Is this technology sweeping in too fast? Should we be more aware of its downfalls?

VoIP is a great technology in which one can make phone calls through broadband internet provider. As there are no taxes applicable to calls made through the internet, the charges for these calls are considerably less expensive compared to the traditional service company.

Security Nightmares

From security point of view, VoIP is a nightmare as it combines the worst vulnerabilities of IP networks and voice networks. Can this problem be solved with the right VoIP plan? The answer is yes!

There are three main threats to VoIP security:

* Authentication failure - most VoIP devices do not support the authentication standard however, you might be able to do media access control-based security even if it may be very hard to manage. Ask in any computer store about QoS and roaming requirements.
* Integrity failure - ensure the integrity of your building LAN.
* Privacy failure - most VoIP in the corporate LAN will not be encrypted which means someone can listen to your conversation when made through your internet provider. To fix this problem you must determine where these taps can be stored and secure those parts of your infrastructure.

To work a VoIP plan of security is not easy nor is applying it as it will take an expert to deal with all the above mentioned problems.

Meanwhile we can reflect on the VoIP plan to success. All you need here is to take the plunge and switch to the VoIP technology. While business corporations may be weary about how VoIP plan of security works the everyday man has really nothing to worry.

I seriously doubt someone will spend precious time to listen while I chat idly with my mom about what I fed the cat today, do you? To be honest we don't know our phones are not being tapped right now with the traditional phone service. We learn something everyday.

VoIP has its disadvantages but, its advantages are enough to convince even businesses to take the plunge; after all how long can we avoid the future technology?

VoIP is easy to use, better services and cost effective. You can keep your original number and enjoy extra facilities that your traditional phone would charge separately for. The only real disadvantage is that being internet operated when the internet drops so does your phone system. To fix that you can use a cell phone in case of emergency.
