Skype: The King of VoIP Application Processes

When it comes to a solid VoIP application, Skype is probably the most popular one of the many available options with many of us experimenting with it while on the internet. Over 61 million people have downloaded the software to use its free services as per a study done in 2005.

Skype offers free telephone calls over the internet as long as both parties using the service have downloaded the software. It's very quick and easy to download.

The VoIP application Skype was extremely easy to pick up as it has many similarities to instant messaging (IM) with which almost everyone is familiar. I finally taught my grandmother to use IM so we can chat weekly; it's great for our relationship. Now that grandma's on, the rest of the family came on board as well and we are saving tons of money on phone bills.

The Revolution Works

Skype converts ones voice into a digital data packet which is then transferred through internet and converted back into sound on the other end. Any VoIP application should be used only with broadband such as DSL, Cable or Satellite.

Due to the high popularity of Skype many people looked into adopting the technology for everyday use. VoIP application became more and more sought after everyday by residential homes and businesses alike. I mean who wouldn't want to save some money on the phone bill; especially busy businesses that spend a fortune on long distance and overseas calls.

Good for Anyone and Everyone!

VoIP application like Skype is very advantageous for small businesses by lowering phone costs and increasing productivity through communications such as conference calling, group chat, file transfer, free toll free calling. The Skype toolbars allow the callers to make one click calls to numbers directly from within the Windows Outlook and Internet Explorer.

VoIP application such as Skype is being integrated by many big names such as Yahoo and Google. Those that use their services know that you can make free PC to PC phone calls by downloading their software. Both have exceptional voice quality and clarity.

While there are so many advantages there always has to be some disadvantages as well; the main disadvantage of VoIP application is the fact that it can only be used with broadband high speed internet and should your internet fail so will your phone system. However, keeping in mind that these PC to PC phone calls are free, you don't have much to complain about.
