Everyone is switching to VoIP phones slowly, so what are you waiting for? Are you still wondering what hardware are needed in order for you to have a complete VoIP telephony set? Well, it is very simple indeed. You basically won't need anything more than the telephone set, the analog telephone adapter, the VoIP router, and the PC handset and headsets. This of course excludes the fundamental ones, which exist without saying; computers, sound cards and modems. Sounds very simple right? It actually is. These VoIP hardware are very simple to install, and the best part is that they come together with the telephony service most of the time, especially when you require the company to come over and fix the service line for you. Except for the PC handsets and headsets, everything else is usually included, simply because they are compulsory hardware requirements for the most basic VoIP configuration.

The Phone Set

This is the most essential part of the VoIP hardware configuration, because it is the essence of it. The phone set makes up the interface between you and the network. There are many types of phones which can be used as VoIP phone, which depends much on your needs and other circumstances. This would include your existing PSTN phone, VoIP phones or SIP phones, Softphones, Wireless IP phones, and so many more.

Analog Telephone Adapter

An adapter is a VoIP hardware which acts as the hardware interface or medium between your analog PSTN telephone system (if you are using it) and the digital VoIP line. Commonly known as ATA or phone adapter, you will find this provided along if you say you are using the conventional phone. You won't need this adapter if you are using PC-to-PC VoIP telephony.

Router

The router is another very important VoIP hardware, which the main device used to connect to the internet. Sometimes it is also known as a gateway, though it is not one. Depending on your internet wiring and set up at home, you should get the most appropriate router. You would need an ADSL router if you are using an ADSL broadband line or a wireless router if you are using a wireless Internet connection.

PC Handsets and Headsets
This VoIP Hardware does not come along with the telephony products. You would have to choose and buy the most appropriate ones according to your needs and the PC. Usually the handsets connect to the PC via USB, while the headsets are basically like speakers and microphones.
